Laetitia Schoeman
Laetitia was born and raised in Somerset West, South Africa--about 20 minutes drive from the mother city, Cape Town. She graduated from Strand High School in 1990 and was employed as Service Advisor at Daimler-Chrysler Mercedes Benz and Sales Executive at the Toyota branch of the Rola Group. Laetitia and Robert married in 1993 and are blessed with three beautiful children, Daniel (14), Noelle (12) and Luke (5).
Robert and Laetitia felt called into full time ministry in 1998 and in November 2002; the family immigrated to the United States parting their families. The Schoeman-family joined the local United Methodist Church in Onancock on the Eastern Shore of Virginia where her husband Robert worked as a Music teacher from 2005-8. Laetitia and Robert were invited to share their testimony of God's graceful calling in their lives in the process of a tremendously difficult transition from South African to American culture.
Laetitia was very involved when she landed the shores of her newly adopted country at three different UMC charges including Market Street, Belle Haven-Bethel, and Brucetown. Robert currently serves as Senior Pastor at Brucetown UMC on the Winchester District of the UMC. Her past ministry involvement include teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible school, assisting in Youth Ministry, creating and coordinating an after school program for kids, ages 5-11, Lay Preaching and Teaching, assisting in pastoral care, visitation, the Holy Sacraments, ad-hoc counseling, and mid-week Bible Study for adults and youth.
She tragically lost her father to cancer in 2008 and has not had the opportunity to visit with her family before and after his death. During this time of bereavement, God opened the path towards Pastoral ministry for her. Laetitia is currently a certified candidate for Ordained ministry and when she is offered an appointment, she will pursue the Elder track. She loves the German automobile and wears her belated father's Mercedes Benz baseball cap when she runs the hills of her new home in Cross Junction, VA. Laetitia likes knitting, baking freshly ground whole grain bread and Afrikaner biscuits. As the heart of the home, she loves spending time with her husband and children. Right now their new addition to the family, a little beagle pup, Duchess is the center of attention at this family's home in the beautiful mountains of the Shenandoah Valley.
