The first Methodist Church in Toms Brook, Va., was organized in 1879 with seven charter members. The organization of this early church was inspired by a revival service held in the woods near the present facility. By 1892, the Sunday School report listed 82 members on the church roll, with an average attendance of 49.
In 1917 the first sanctuary was torn down and moved to what is today the parking lot of the present church. There were approximately 70 members at this time. During these years Toms Brook Methodist Church was an active rural church and was the center of many community activities. Sunday services were more like family reunions as the close knit congregation worshiped together each week.

On February 7, 1954, the church broke ground in preparation for what would become the third Methodist church to be built in less than 75 years. The new church, which the congregation continues to use today, was built on a site adjoining the second church.

Today, Toms Brook United Methodist Church is a vibrant and growing congregation of almost 460 members. The church has gained a reputation in the community for its warm welcome to the many visitors of the Shenandoah Valley and for its active ministry to children, teenagers, and families as well as to its older members.
